The JEM Consulting Group developed some handy step by step how to’s we call asEZasABnC or simply “Tips and Hints”. These step by step instructions fill in some gaps in tutorials and help answer your questions. In some cases they even supplement tutorials. We use GoDaddy to register most of our domain names. I recommend using “private” registration services if you do not want your name, address and telephone available for other’s to see on the Web. It’s a little more costly, but worth it! GoDaddy also offers Web hosting services and Website (software) Builder for those not interested in learning the intricacies of a software program. Keep this in mind though, when you use a host’s software you do lose future flexibility over your site. All the information is stored on their servers. Moving or changing hosts might be a challenge in the future for a large site. Note: Look for discount coupons before clicking through from our site!
This site, and our other four sites, are hosted at Lunar Pages (below). They are cost comparable to other hosts. But you need more skills and a software publishing program. You also need some advanced knowledge. Lunar Pages does have a decent, responsive technical support team. I tested out some other sites, including one of the “leaders” and some “free” sites. I found some things I needed were lacking, including good sales and technical support.
I am proud to be affiliated with Don Campbell and his “Small Business Website” theme based on the Wordpress platform. My new on-site blog is made with his theme. Don has allowed me to Beta as a stand alone test site on one of other sites. This way I can learn the theme and help others with it. This theme is especially suited for businesses with a storefront location, with “open for business” hours and features an easy Google map insert. That page is easily omitted for home based businesses.
It is reasonably priced ($119.00) with lifetime upgrades (you only pay once), video tutorials, access to to technical support from Don. It IS for small business owners who want to control their Website themselves. Don’t pay developer costs when you do not have to!
