Brandon Copple, Managing Editor for Crain’s Chicago Business, conducted a round table with four successful small business owners. There are four short videos available on their site, each one a JEM (pun) a wealth of information.
The first was called Lessons Learned and dealt with the economy through 2009. Comments included learning to bob and weave (dance) in these times…recognizing opportunities…having to drop price points…getting (unemployed) help at affordable prices…bank lending practices and more.
Is The Stimulus Working (#2) was rather negative, and rightfully so, about the impact made on small businesses by the stimulus package. All the money going to banks or government projects when small businesses employ 60% of the people. How did it help put people back to work? Do what you have to do to build a business and build equity in that business.
Dealing with the City of Chicago talks about some of the challenges they encountered.
I think the best of the lot was The Road Ahead and the outlook for optomisim. The huge growth opportunity for those of us who are nimble. Purging of over saturation of retailers and branch banks; or an upcoming thinning of the herd. Customers continuing to want to save money and if we can meet their demands and deliver the goods at a great price, you will come out a winner!
