I added this comment to a newbie on a LinkedIn discussion in the Party Event Business group. She asked:
“Hi guys, I am just starting out in the party planning business, any advice you could all give me would be fantastic.”
I felt she was seeking for the Holy Grail. Since I am not Prince Charming and know there is no one size fits all answer, my reply was:
I would first decide what you do better than any one else in a targeted niche market. Look at your (present and potential) competitors for information. Decide what you like and dislike about their operations. Talk to potential clients. (Talk to strangers.) Decide what makes you different and see if anyone is interested in buying what you offer.
Then get a Hub or anchor. In most cases this is a Web site or a Blog site. I do not believe Facebook Fan Pages, which are currently the rage, are an anchor. (What Steve Z giveth, he can taketh away.) I think they should point or redirect people to a solid Web site. Then market yourself.
Never never expect people (prospects or clients) are going to flock to you. In most case you are not going to go viral.
What’s you opinion on this subject? Agree or disagree?
