Like any good salesman my response to a question about humor and entertainment being mixed with business and blogging would be… “that depends”. (No, I am not a lawyer.)
I would then go on to explain the options, as I see them. “On one hand it blends in, while on the other hand” it does not make sense. Blah, blah, blah…. blah, blah, blah. (Well, maybe I think like a lawyer does; after all, I do bill clients on an hourly basis.)
But I truly want people to get both sides of the story so they can make intelligent, adult decisions. (Oh am I impersonating the late Edward R. Morrow now?)
I sold that way as a professional consultative salesperson for 28 years in the electronic security business. And I continue to follow that same path today. Integrity, professionalism and ethics rule the day! (Churchill, not. OK so name your favorite politician or world leader that reminds you of.)
Both humor and entertainment are certainly a means to gain people’s attention and interest. They can be very effective in a business blog or on a professional blogger’s pages. But can you sell use with them?
Certainly, when you anoint yourself as the Humorously Entertaining Prolific Proficient Copywriter and have the credentials to prove it. My friend Jack Goldenberg is such a talent. And he can sure put a ‘spin’ on any story, believe me when I say that.
Check out his blog at 10 Minutes of Brilliance. Also, try to figure out why he ‘LIKES” Mikey so much while you are there. Check out the comments and see a face you might recognize. Then leave him some ‘love’ by commenting, that is only if you appreciate his entertaining and sarcastic humor as I do.
And if you need to add some levity to your work (Yes, I know I am too serious when I talk about business folks – but your success is what I focus on.) then give him a call. (H) 973-627-1994 (C) 973-590-7343
