Hi. It’s Mike Yublosky, the Web Professor. I call myself that because I’ve probably have logged greater than 12,000 hours since 2006 studying marketing on the web for small business owners. Today I run a consulting firm for small business owners and also like to pass on hints and tips about better networking opportunities on the Web.
One of my favorite topics in that regard is of course LinkedIn for business networking. But I find that a lot of small business owners make a mistake on LinkedIn which may cause us opportunities lost. We make it difficult for people to contact us.
Most of the people I deal with, including myself, use the free service on LinkedIn. We thus can not use inmails because we don’t pay for them. Plus a problem with inmails is sometimes it takes three to five days for them to reach me.
You should therefor add your email address and telephone number to your LinkedIn profile. This is one thing that I see a lot of people just overlook. And there are three places I can think of off the top of my head where you can easily drop in your email address as well as your telephone number.
The first is your contact information, which appears on the right side bar of your profile. The second is your personal information which appears at the bottom of your LinkedIn profile. The third place is in your summary section which appears just below your profile highlight box.
So make it easy for somebody to contact you by adding your email address and telephone number if you have not done so already.
